Here's 5 tips to help you make new mom friends
- Use social media: Social media can also be an amazing tool for connecting with new moms and sharing advice and tips. It can even lead to coffee dates and walks in the park. Start following local venues and organisations on both Facebook and Instagram, sign up for newsletters about events taking place, such as book clubs at the library, mom and baby yoga classes at your local sport centre, or events at your church hall. Always be cautious about who you chat to online. We suggest you join the Caribbean Moms discussion forum to meet like-minded moms near you!
- Get out in your neighbourhood: Getting out of the house with a baby is hard, but you need to put yourself out there. We promise you'll find lots of new moms in the same position!
- Put yourself out there: This can be so daunting, especially if you're shy. But the effort will be well rewarded. Approach other moms in the supermarket, in the park, at the library. If you have a toddler, maybe arrange playdates with their friends.
- Seal the deal: Make sure to ask moms for their cell number, and be forward about suggesting meeting up.
- Say ‘yes’ more often: Being a mom is exhausting and so it can be so tempting to just stay home and not make any plans. But if you are want to widen your circle, you need to say yes more often. You have to be both positive and realistic, but one things for sure - nothing will happen if you don't make an effort.
