If you're working from home and have the kids in the house, we're here to help with 10 ways to keep the kids busy when you're working from home.
Work and kids don’t generally go together but if the last few years have taught us anything, it's that sometimes needs must.
10 ways to keep the kids busy when you're working from home
So how do you keep the tiny people in your life occupied while you do some work?
We have some options below that should buy you some time.
- Arts and crafts: Get them to make something for you. A picture, a necklace out of cereal hoops, little faces on toilet rolls, painting rocks, all will focus their little minds while you get time to focus yours.
- Play office with you: We could all do with an assistant, couldn't we? Just don't leave anything important within scribbling reach.
- Books: An oldie, but a classic. If you’ve got an avid reader on your hands, you're in luck. Load them up.
- Playpen next to you: If you have yourself a pre-crawler, you have the added benefit of at least being able to see what they are up to. Plonk a playpen beside you as you work with all their favourite toys and you may just buy yourself a half hour or so.
- Build a fort: Honestly, building forts out of boxes and furniture looks like so much fun, you may want to just down tools and join in with them.
- Get them to put on a performance: Have a TikTok dance they need to master? A song they want to learn? A play they could make up together? The options are endless when it comes to a kid's imagination. Don't forget to clap adoringly at your little star.
- Indoor hopscotch: Okay, you may have to not care that much about putting chalk on your floor for this one, but let's face it, your kids have probably wrecked it already. Indoor hopscotch is loads of fun, and a solid option on a rainy day too.
- Wash their toys: Time to put these kids to work. Well, not really. They will love playing around with their toys in the water, and as a bonus they will have shiny new toys to play with after. Just keep the teddies out of there.
- Scavenger hunt: This one requires a little bit of work from you beforehand, but hopefully it will be worth it to get a little bit done. Make a page filled with pictures of items around the house that they can take with them and tick off as they find. Alternatively, you can just give them a list of items and they can use your phone to take pictures of the stuff. Hey, maybe they'll even find something you have been looking for.
- Screen time: Yes, yes screen time gets a bad rap - but we all know how necessary it is at times as long as your little one is over 18 months old and the screen time is in strict moderation. There is also so much educational content for kids these days so they may even learn something too! Win, win.
